1. Tanks
This is the Tank Mark VIII and it was used during WWI by the U.S. I chose tanks as one of my artifacts because tanks were introduced during the war. They were a big help in the front lines because they were heavily armored and they had heavy firepower. The front lines were a mess to be in because gun shots are are going past you, bombs are going off, little sleep due to not wanting to die from an attack and you witnessed your fellow soldiers getting shot and dying.
2. Trench Warfare
Trench warfare was a big help during battle because it provided a lot of protection from machine gun fire and attacks from the air. Most trenches were in a zigzag pattern because it controlled explosions from spreading if a grenade was thrown into the trench. I choose it was an artifact because this new strategy of warfare helps saved a lot of people. Soldiers would live in trenches for weeks at a time and would have to fight, sleep, eat and use the restroom in the same spot, so that means being there wasn't the greatest place to be at.
3. Morphine
Morphine was used as a pain treatment for coughs and extreme diarrhea, It was also used for serious medical procedures. If a soldier needed to get an arm chopped off the nurses would give them some morphine to calm them down and numb their pain. A bad thing about is that it was highly addictive so, if any soldiers survived the war they cam home as addicts to morphine.
4. deadly gasses
Deadly gasses were used in battle during WWI to stop enemy troops from going forward. Chlorine gas was commonly used because it began to work instantly. Chlorine gas burns the enemy throats and they died of suffocation. to protect themselves from the gasses they made gas masks to protect their eyes, Throats and breathing air ways. I chose deadly gasses as my artifact because it was used big time during battle and it killed many people. If anyone that survived being in a gas they would suffer severely and most likely die soon after.
5. gas masks
This is a imperial German WWI leather gas mask
Gas masks were made in 1915 by a Russian scientist. They were made to protect soldiers from gas attacks because many soldiers were dying. One of the first gas masks had a charcoal filter that helped stop the gasses from going through. The masks had a rubber straps to keep it as air tight as possible. Gas masks were made for all kinds of things like kids, teens, adults and animals. I chose gas masks as my artifacts because gas masks were a major help and necessity for the soldiers because it would saved them from gas attacks
